An air of anticipation

The new year has opened and it brings with it such a sense of anticipation!  I realize that every new year we all make proclamations and by March they have been left by the wayside, but this year it just feels different somehow - it's an air of anticipation!  The thing that is helping fuel my hope is not just that I feel this way, but I'm hearing others say that they too feel this year is different, we all can just feel it.
With that being said for the year 2015 I don't want to try and be something new, or do something different - I want to look at my life and do what I have been doing but better than ever before.  Instead of starting a million new ideas or projects, I'm going to try and improve on what I already have!  I want to be kinder, love more, worship better, live fuller, talk quieter, listen more, give graciously...
I got inspired with the  goal of just becoming a better version of what I already am when I was speaking to my father on the phone a few weeks back. He pastors a church and kicked off his yearly theme with "Make it happen" and was inspired by the story of Chik-fil-a.  To shorten things up a bit I will just say many years back the company felt they were in trouble and weren't growing and the founder decided to stop trying to focus on growth and to focus on improving what they already had instead of more Chik-fil-a's, he wanted better Chik-fil-a's - which started the best customer service campaign ever... "Welcome to Chik-fil-a, How may I serve you.", "It's my pleasure", etc.
I think that in the past I too have tried to focus on growth, revival, changes, new programs, re branding, new activities, etc in hopes of sparking a revolution and drawing more souls in.  But I got to thinking about how if every church member behaved like a Chik-fil-a employee in their walk with God - how marvelous our churches would be. Perhaps we've been approaching the future all wrong - we are focused on how we make our events, services, etc. successful... What if we turned our focus inward on how we improve our prayer, our worship, our actions, and let the light of Jesus shine for all to see! John 13:24-35 says 34"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35"By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

Well - that's my food for thought for today.
